New Interactive Exhibit Unveiled at the Henry Duncan Savings Banks Museum.
The Henry Duncan Savings Banks Museum, a renowned historical site owned and operated by the Annandale Distillery Group, has introduced an engaging new attraction as part of its ongoing celebrations for the 213th anniversary of the savings bank’s opening.
The museum has recently installed an original Albion Press, providing visitors with the unique opportunity to step back in time and recreate the printing process of the early 19th century. Guests can now print their own commemorative front page of the Dumfries Courier, a newspaper founded by the multi-talented Reverend Henry Duncan, making this interactive experience an integral part of the museum tour.
“We are thrilled to introduce this exciting addition to the museum,” said Lee Medd, Head of Place Marketing, Tourism Development and Events at the Annandale Distillery Group. “The installation of the Albion Press allows us to further showcase the remarkable legacy of Reverend Henry Duncan and offers visitors a hands-on way to connect with his diverse contributions to our community and the world.”
The Henry Duncan Savings Banks Museum, which underwent a comprehensive renovation and reopened earlier this year, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the life and work of Reverend Duncan. A visionary leader, Duncan founded the world’s first savings bank, established the Dumfries Courier, and made significant strides in the fields of geology and paleontology.
This latest exhibit adds another layer of depth and interactivity to the museum’s offerings, enhancing the visitor experience and ensuring that Reverend Duncan’s legacy continues to inspire and educate generations to come.
To accommodate the increased interest during the summer holidays, the museum will be open five days a week, inviting visitors to explore the fascinating exhibits and participate in the unique printing experience with the Albion Press.
