The Henry Duncan Savings Banks Museum in Ruthwell is pleased to announce that it has received funding from the Regional Cultural Fund 2024/25 to modernise its displays and interpretation boards.
This funding will allow the museum to present the story of Henry Duncan, the founder of the savings bank movement, in a more engaging and accessible way. The museum will be able to update its exhibits, create new interactive displays, and improve its overall visitor experience.
“We are delighted to have received this funding,” said Mhairi Hastings, Museum Manager.
“With the continued investment we are making as a business, this will allow us to present the story of Henry Duncan in a way we have not been able to previously.”
The Henry Duncan Savings Banks Museum is one of 14 cultural and heritage projects across Dumfries and Galloway to receive funding from the Regional Cultural Fund. The fund, which is managed by Dumfries and Galloway Council, has made grant awards totalling more than £62,000.
The funding is from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, and it is being used to enhance cultural and heritage development across the region.
Gail McGregor, the Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, said, “There was a superb response to the Regional Cultural Fund, with thirty-five eligible applications received, and the Council and its partners are delighted to be able to announce the funding for 14 excellent projects across Dumfries and Galloway. It is clear that dozens of organisations which are active in our region hold our culture and heritage dear and work tirelessly to support and promote it.”
The Henry Duncan Savings Banks Museum is grateful for the support of the Regional Cultural Fund and is excited to begin work on its modernisation project.
